ecovista upgrades LED display at Angel Square Tower, Manchester
Background overview
Angel Square Tower is a Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) roadside display in a high-traffic area of Manchester, located outside One Angel Square, one of Europe’s most sustainable buildings. With over 5,000 pedestrians daily, the screen offers premium advertising visibility for brands targeting commuters and visitors to Victoria Train Station, Shudehill Interchange and Manchester Arena.
Originally installed in 2013, the outdoor LED display had aged over a decade, with visible deterioration affecting visual performance. To maintain quality, City Outdoor sought a sustainable, high quality and cost-effective solution to refresh the screen with minimal downtime.

Clients challenge
As a prime advertising location, downtime had to be minimised to prevent revenue loss. Sustainability and cost efficiency were also key factors, with City Outdoor aiming to extend the lifespan of the existing infrastructure rather than undertaking a full rebuild. The new screen needed to deliver superior brightness and clarity to provide high-impact visibility for advertiser.
Our solution
EcoVista adopted a full turnkey approach, delivering a seamless LED display upgrade with minimal disruption. By retaining the existing steel structure, the project significantly reduced waste and lowered refurbishment costs.
The installation involved replacing the old display with a new 10mm pixel pitch LED display from i5 LED, offering up to 10,000 nits brightness to ensure optimal clarity and visibility in all lighting conditions. The process was completed in just four days, including decommissioning the old screen, replacing all modules and commissioning the new display with minimal disruption, aided by a cherry picker.
The new display maintains a portrait 6×4 format, measuring 2.88m x 5.76m. The use of same-sized panels as the previous display allowed for an easy switch-out within the existing structure, ensuring a seamless installation with no need for additional modifications.
As part of the upgrade, EcoVista also enhanced the electrical system, bringing the distribution board up to modern regulations for improved reliability. Aging components were responsibly recycled or repurposed, ensuring compliance with eco-friendly disposal practices.
The
result
The project was delivered on time and within budget, revitalising Angel Square Tower with next-generation LED display technology. This cost-effective upgrade allows City Outdoor to maintain its position as a premium DOOH provider while minimising environmental impact. The seamless execution ensured that advertising schedules were not affected. By reusing existing infrastructure, EcoVista provided a sustainable, long-term solution. The new LED display delivers superior performance, offering advertisers a high-quality platform for years to come.
